The camera can be driven without touching the screen. This chapter covers the physical inputs Verana answers to: Camera Control on the side of recent iPhones, the volume buttons, and the Action button.
24.1 Camera Control
Camera Control is the pressure-sensitive control on the side of recent iPhones. Verana adopts it where the hardware provides it. On devices without it, everything else works as described.
A light press brings up the control overlay, and sliding along the control moves through the values of whichever item is in use. Verana contributes two items of its own.

Zoom runs the full focal length range of the rear cameras as one continuous scale
rather than one lens at a time, so a slide crosses from the ultra wide to the telephoto
and back without stopping at a lens boundary. The marked positions are the same ones the
zoom slider uses on screen, described in Chapter 2. Front cameras have no zoom scale, so
the item is withdrawn while a front camera is active.
Mode lists A, M and S, followed by any custom mode position that holds something.
Empty positions are left out rather than shown and skipped, so the list is only as long as
it needs to be. This is the way to change exposure mode without touching the screen, and
the only way to reach a custom mode without it. Custom modes are covered in Chapter 23
and exposure modes in Chapter 3.
24.2 The Capture Buttons
A full press on Camera Control takes the photograph, or starts and stops recording. The volume buttons and the Action button do the same. In burst the press is held for the length of the stack, matching the on-screen shutter button.
Note: Which camera app the hardware control opens is set in the iPhone’s own settings, under Camera. It is not a Verana setting.
